The Portuguese are very attached to their history and traditions. During the summer months, there are "Festas" (festivals) everywhere with dance and music. They are free to attend. You will meet many locals, from very young to very old. Traditions are upheld through regular folk dance events. These festivals are held once a year, featuring many international and national dance groups. This photo is of the local dance group from, and in, Santo Estévão.

the old town of Tavira is situated on the coast, just 7 km away from our estate. The town dates back to the time of Moorish rule. The Moors, who came from Morocco, have left a distinct mark on the entire coastal area. In the town of Tavira, and certainly also in the fortress "Cacela Velha," there are places where you can relax and enjoy a terrace or a delicious lunch or diner.

Part of the beautiful beaches is separated by a particularly beautiful protected nature reserve, the "Ria Formosa." Sometimes it is necessary to take a boat or a train to pass through this nature reserve to reach the beach. It is an area that changes with the tides and is home to many interesting species of animals and plants. Additionally, there are several islands located towards Faro that can be visited by boat from several coastal towns.

You have access to a very long and beautiful beach ("Baril") from about 5 km away from our estate. You can walk or take a train to pass through the nature park Ria Formosa. A little further is the old fishing village of Santa Luzia, known for its special fish and octopus restaurants along the harbor boulevard. From there, you can also reach the beach by a (very affordable) shuttle boat. A little to the east (towards Spain) there are equally beautiful beaches that you can reach directly by car.
